The Advent of Orthodontics

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight. Imagine for once, what would the world be like, how different your life would be, when eating, speaking or smiling makes you uncomfortable or you get embarrassed. But thankfully, our world has orthodontics who give you the smile which you deserve. They have come up with the beautiful concept of braces that have abundant health benefits.

Crooked, misplaced or crowded teeth have numerous health risks. It gets very difficult to clean them which can lead to tooth decay, which is not only painful but can affect the rest of your body too. An overbite, under bite or misalignment of your jaw can only be cured by braces.

Metal Braces-Let's know them better:

Metal brackets in orthodontics are the most commonly used braces. They are generally made up of a durable mixturesof stainless steel, nickel and various other metals in small amounts. All these braces have overhanging edges around which a metal or elastic tie is used to hold the wire at place.

The elastic ties come in various different colors. They are also available in bright colors which are generally seen on a young patient's teeth. They hold on tightly to the teeth and exercise excellent control on them to correct crooked teeth. These braces generally cost less as compared to other braces.

Ceramic Braces: A common alternative to metal braces

Ceramic braces are the most common alternative to metal brackets. Hwever, these ceramic braces are not recommended in severe cases. Ceramic brackets in orthodontics were introduced in the 1980s when the idea about less visible braces came up. Contrary to the popular belief, they do not stain easily and are tough, thanks to the technological advances.

Earlier, plastic braces were used to solve the need for clear braces. But, plastics tend to be porous and as a result stain easily. So, ceramic braces began to be used instead. Ceramic braces are less painful, since they do not irritate the gums. They are very strong and do not break or chip easily.

Sapphire Brackets:

Sapphire brackets or braces are made up of translucent sapphire crystal. These braces are widely accepted by clinicians and the patients for their ability to mask the appearance of the fixed orthodontic appliances.

Sapphire brackets, though expensive, are chosen widely due to their esthetic factor. These are crystal clear and literally get invisible in your teeth.

Orthodontic Arch Wire:

An arch wire attaches the braces to your teeth. The arch wire is like ab engine which guides and moves your teeth. An orthodontic arch wire comes in different sizes and shapes and have different material compositions.
